The Port of Albany-Rensselaer

2025 Maritime Report

The Port of Albany-Rensselaer needed a publication that could serve two audiences at once: a printed piece for stakeholders, tenants, and partners, and a digital edition ready to share online. At the center of the project was a story about scale and reach, tracing how components built at GE Vernova’s Schenectady facility move through the Port and out to wind farm projects on the other side of the world.

The design draws on the Port’s maritime and industrial character, with deep navy tones, gold accents, and a pairing of Playfair Display and Barlow Condensed. Layouts were built to hold a lot of information without feeling crowded, so the publication reads with the confidence of a corporate report while staying visually engaging.

The centerpiece of the publication is a full-spread infographic mapping the journey of GE Vernova’s onshore wind turbine components, from Schenectady down the Hudson River through the Port of Albany, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, and on to the Ports of Newcastle and Gladstone in Australia. The map combines a custom illustrated world projection with route animation, waypoint call-outs, and key statistics: 300+ wind energy components shipped to Australia, a 430-acre port footprint across four municipalities, roughly 10,000 nautical miles from Albany to Newcastle, and 3+ GW of GE Vernova wind capacity operating or under construction in Australia. The numbers live in the call-outs, keeping the surrounding narrative copy clean and letting the visual carry the data.

The book was printed on Mohawk Superfine Smooth, 100lb text, a premium uncoated stock chosen for its print quality and tactile finish. Production included full print coordination, from working with the printer on specs to reviewing proofs and preparing print-ready files for delivery. A digital edition was also published via Issuu, giving the Port a page-turning online version for sharing with partners and the public.

Printed copies were delivered in time for the Port’s 2026 Maritime Summit, where they were shared with stakeholders, government officials, and industry leaders in attendance.
